The other thing you can do, if you're willing to spend the money (wait for a sale if you want), is get a second account and then when you get bored with exploration, you just log in on your alt and do something else. My AspX has a jump range in the mid-upper 60's and it's still a huge journey to Colonia or back. It's still going to be hundreds of jumps though, even with that. Then make sure you're plotting a route that uses the boost from neutron stars so that you'll make the trip as short as possible.

Whenever I'm exploring an undiscovered planet/moon and see something really beautiful, I can't help but think "I'm the first person to ever see this." and that's something unique to this game.įrom what you said though, I'd suggest building your exploration ship so it has the highest possible jump range while carrying all the things you need for long-range exploration. What I like about Elite is that you can experience this feeling in the game. the first one to climb that hill, first one to see the sun set over those mountains" or something along those lines. There's a line in The Martian where he says "everywhere I go on Mars, I'm the first. It'll make the trip a bit longer but you'll also get some more money when you reach your destination. You'll come across plenty of planets/moons with plant life on them so you can always land on one and scan some plants, drive around and admire the views.

If you have Odyssey you can do a bit of exobiology along the way. It's just extra weight that cuts down your jump range. It's why weapons are pretty much useless on an exploration ship. No more interdictions or POIs like crashed ships and such on planets. Well, once you're far enough away from civilization, there's little else to do but explore. I could extend that somewhat by taking breaks and doing other things in real life, but I don't think I could go an entire month where every day I spend two hours exploring in E:D. I can scan (D-scan + FSS everything + DSS most important planets) maybe twenty or so systems in a row before I start feeling like I want to do something else for a change. Originally posted by tdb:Exploration is nice in moderate doses, but I get bored and require variety in my gameplay.
